I had the same problem on a honda shadow. The brake light is activated by a cable. Water gets into and it froze up causing it to break. A new one was as dear as, so I bought a bicycle brake cable and soldered the end and screwed the metal piece of a strip connector to connect on the switch spring. the end that connects with the pedal only needed filing down a bit, this has lasted so far for 11 months and is still going strong cost was around 10$ NZ which is about $5 US I have not had to do the savage yet so im not sure of how it connects to the pedal end, But if and when it does go Ill be using a bycycle cable instead of paying for a new cable,
